Wellward Cash Price API — Terms of Use

These API Terms of Use ("API Terms") govern access to and use of the Wellward Cash Price API, the Wellward MCP server, the developer portal at wellwardhealth.com/developers, and any data, documentation, keys, or exports we make available through them (together, the "API"). The API is operated by Jupiter Health, Inc., a Delaware corporation doing business as Wellward ("Wellward," "we," "us").

These API Terms supplement the Wellward Terms of Service at wellwardhealth.com/terms (the "Terms"), which are incorporated by reference. Sections 13 through 21 of the Terms — intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, changes, termination, notices, dispute resolution and binding arbitration, and governing law — apply to the API as if the API were part of the Services. If these API Terms and the Terms conflict about the API, these API Terms control.

By creating an API key, calling the API, or connecting the MCP server, you accept these API Terms on your own behalf and, if you are acting for a company or organization, on its behalf, and you represent that you have authority to bind it. If you do not agree, do not use the API.

1. What the API is, and what it is not

The API provides self-pay ("cash") healthcare prices that Wellward has gathered directly from providers, mostly by telephone, together with the date each price was quoted, how it was obtained, what it includes, and benchmarks derived from those prices (the "Data"). Wellward publishes how it gathers and screens prices at wellwardhealth.com/care/methodology/cash-prices.

A price is a quote, not an offer. Every price in the Data is what a provider told us on a particular date. Wellward has no contracts with the providers in the Data. Providers set their own prices, may change them at any time without notice to Wellward or anyone else, may quote differently to different callers, and may charge more or less than they quoted depending on what care is actually delivered. A price in the Data is not a guarantee, a contract, or a commitment by Wellward or by the provider. Anyone relying on a price must confirm it with the provider before receiving care. Every API response carries this disclaimer, and you must show it to your users wherever you show a price (see Section 6).

You use the Data at your own risk. You assume all risk and responsibility for your use of the Data, for how you present it, and for any decision, action, or outcome that you or your users base on it. Wellward is not responsible for any difference between a price in the Data and what a provider actually charges, or for any consequence of that difference.

The API is not medical, legal, insurance, or financial advice, and it is not a provider directory in the sense of a network. Wellward does not recommend any provider through the API, does not accept payments, referral fees, or commissions from providers or insurers for inclusion in the Data, and does not represent that any provider is available, appropriate, or in-network for anyone.

2. No patient information, no PHI

The API contains no patient information and is not designed to receive any. It is a source of provider prices, nothing more.

You will not send Wellward, through any endpoint, form, webhook, support channel, or otherwise, any information that identifies a patient or a person seeking care — including names, email addresses, phone numbers, account identifiers, dates of birth, or any other identifier — or any protected health information as defined by HIPAA, or any other personal health data. This includes pairing an identifiable person with a service they are seeking. Price requests, contributions, and updates are tied to your API account, not to any individual, and the API does not accept contact details for your users.

Wellward is not your business associate, subcontractor, or service provider under HIPAA or any state health-privacy law with respect to the API, and we do not sign business associate agreements for API access. If your application handles patient information, that is your responsibility under your own obligations, and none of it should reach us. If you send us such information in breach of this Section, we may delete it without notice and suspend your access.

3. Keys, pricing, and your account

You get access by creating an API key through the developer portal or by receiving one from us. Keys are issued to a named person or organization and are non-transferable. You are responsible for keeping keys secret, for every request made with your keys, and for telling us promptly at hello@wellwardhealth.com if a key is exposed. Do not embed a key in client-side code, a public repository, or a distributed application; issue requests from a server you control.

Test keys are free and return a fixed test dataset. Live use is billed per Read and per completed price request at the pricing published at wellwardhealth.com/developers (the "Pricing"), which also defines what counts as a Read and a completed price request. Live keys are available only after an administrator of your organization has accepted these API Terms and added a payment method, or agreed invoicing with us in writing. Accounts opened before September 23, 2026 are not billed unless we first give notice by email to the address on the account.

Rate limits and daily quotas apply to every key and are shown on the developer portal and returned in response headers. We may change them at any time.

We may change the Pricing at any time. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email to the address on your account before any new or higher fee applies to you, and continued use after that notice means you accept it. Where we have agreed pricing with you in a signed order form, that order form controls for its term.

We may suspend, limit, or revoke any key, account, or access to the API at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice, and without any obligation to give a reason. We will usually tell you why, but we are not required to.

4. What you may do with the Data

Subject to these API Terms, Wellward grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license, for as long as you have access, to:

  • Query the API and display the Data in your own website, application, or agent, to your own users, with the disclaimer described in Section 6.
  • Analyze the Data and compute your own insights and aggregate statistics from it (for example, "the median cash price of a knee MRI in Dallas is $525"), and publish them.
  • Use the Data in AI and agent products, including retrieving prices at inference time through the MCP server or your own tooling, provided what the agent shows the user carries the disclaimer, and provided you do not use the Data to train, fine-tune, or evaluate a model except as described in Section 5.
  • Cache responses for up to 24 hours to serve your own users, and store request-level results in your own systems for as long as your users need them, so long as the stored copy is not offered to others as a dataset. When we withdraw a price (the API reports it through the changes feed and webhooks), stop showing it within 24 hours.
  • Use benchmarks and aggregate statistics returned by the API without restriction.

The Data, the API, its documentation, and all related intellectual property remain the property of Wellward and its licensors. Nothing in these API Terms transfers ownership of anything to you.

5. What you may not do

You may not, and may not permit anyone else to:

  • Redistribute the Data as data. Do not sell, license, sublicense, rent, syndicate, or otherwise make the Data available to third parties as a dataset, feed, file, or API, whether raw or lightly transformed. Displaying prices to your own users inside your own product is fine; passing the Data through to someone else's product is not.
  • Build a substitute. Do not use the Data to build, train, populate, or improve a database, index, model, or product that competes with the API or with Wellward's cash-price marketplace, or that is designed to replace the need to call the API.
  • Train or evaluate models on the Data. Do not use the Data, in bulk or in part, as training, fine-tuning, or evaluation data for machine-learning models. Passing Data to a model at inference time to answer a user's question is permitted under Section 4; storing it to teach a model is not.
  • Scrape or circumvent. Do not access the Data by any means other than the API and your own key; do not circumvent rate limits, quotas, authentication, or usage tracking; do not share a key across organizations or use multiple keys to evade limits.
  • Blend the Data with other prices. Do not combine Wellward prices with prices or rates from any other source into a single figure, average, range, or statistic.
  • Misrepresent the Data. Do not remove or alter the disclaimer. Do not present a price as more current, more certain, or more official than it is, and do not describe any price as guaranteed, contracted, negotiated, in-network, a discount, or a Wellward-set price. If you identify a source for the Data, it must be Wellward.
  • Use provider contact details to solicit providers. The API returns the telephone number our researchers reached at a provider. You may show it to a user who wants to call that provider. You may not use it, alone or in bulk, for telemarketing, automated calling, texting, lead generation, provider recruitment, or any contact the provider did not invite.
  • Misrepresent your relationship with Wellward. Do not imply that Wellward endorses, sponsors, operates, or is responsible for your product, or that a provider is "Wellward-approved," "in Wellward's network," or similar.
  • Break the law or harm anyone. Do not use the API for anything unlawful, discriminatory, deceptive, or harmful, including any use that would violate healthcare, privacy, consumer-protection, telemarketing, or unfair-competition laws.
  • Overload the service. Do not make requests at a rate or volume that degrades the API for others, and honor Retry-After when you receive a 429.

6. The disclaimer, and optional attribution

Wherever a price from the Data is displayed to an end user — on a page, in an email, in a chat response, or spoken by an agent — you must display, close to the price and in a form the user can read, the disclaimer the API returns or a faithful equivalent:

"A quote is not a binding offer. Confirm price with the provider before care."

That is the only required display element. You are not required to display the date a price was quoted, although the API returns it in quoted_on and you may.

You may, but need not, identify Wellward as the source of the Data. If you do, use the attribution line the API returns — "Cash prices sourced by Wellward" — linked to https://www.wellwardhealth.com/care where links are possible. Wellward grants you a limited license to use the Wellward name and the attribution line solely for this purpose, and only in the form we provide. Do not identify any other party as the source of the Data. Any other use of Wellward's name, logo, or marks requires our written permission.

7. Third-party data and provider identity

The API identifies providers using three kinds of information, and your use of each is subject to its own source:

  • Google Place IDs. Where the API returns a google_place_id, it is a Google Maps Platform identifier. You may use it to look up current provider details through Google's services under your own Google Maps Platform agreement. Wellward does not provide, and the API does not include, Google Maps content such as ratings, reviews, photos, or Google-sourced addresses or coordinates, and you agree not to use the API in a way that would put Wellward in breach of Google's terms.
  • NPPES data. Where the API returns an NPI and NPPES-sourced practice name and address, that information comes from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System maintained by CMS and is public data. Its accuracy depends on the provider's own NPPES filing.
  • Wellward observations. The telephone number we reached, the coordinates we geocoded, the practice type we assigned, and all prices, dates, quote counts, and price context are Wellward's own observations and are subject to these API Terms.

8. Price requests, contributions, and updates

Some endpoints let you ask Wellward to gather a price ("price requests"), submit a price you have obtained ("contributions"), or tell us that a provider quoted something different from what the API shows ("updates"). All three are tied to your API account and carry no information about any individual (Section 2).

Price requests. We will try to gather the price you asked for within the window the API states. Providers may decline to quote, may be unreachable, or may not offer the service, and some requests will end without a price. We do not guarantee a result, a timeline, or a price level. You are billed for a price request only when it produces a price: if we do not obtain a quote for the service and location you requested, or the only quote we obtain is outside the reasonable band of prices for that service in that market or comparable markets (as described in the developer documentation), the request is not billed. Results are delivered through the API and, if you configure one, a webhook; we do not contact your users.

Contributions. By submitting a price, you grant Wellward a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, verify, modify, publish, and distribute it as part of the Data, with or without attribution to you. You represent that the price was actually quoted by the provider you name, for the specific service and variant you name, on or about the date you give; that you obtained it lawfully; and that it contains no personal information about any patient, caller, or staff member. Contributions are reviewed before they are published and may be declined without explanation.

Updates. When you tell us a provider quoted something different from what the API shows, we review the report and may re-check, correct, retire, or keep the price at our discretion. We will let you know through the API when a price you reported changes.

Providers who wish to correct, update, or remove a price that concerns their own practice can do so at wellwardhealth.com/providers or by emailing hello@wellwardhealth.com. We act on provider correction requests promptly, and a price that has been retired is marked retired in the API rather than deleted, so that anyone holding an observation id learns that it changed.

9. Accuracy, availability, and changes

Accuracy. We gather prices carefully, screen them for outliers, retire prices that are no longer current, and label where each one came from, but the Data is provided as-is. Wellward has no contractual relationship with any provider in the Data; providers can and do change their prices at any time, without notice, and nothing obliges a provider to honor a price it quoted to us. Prices may be incomplete, wrongly attributed to a variant, or simply wrong, and coverage varies by market and service. The quoted_on, quoted_on_source, times_quoted, identity_source, and geo.precision fields give you context about a given price — when it was quoted, how it was obtained, and how the provider was identified. They are context, not a guarantee of anything. The warranty disclaimer in Section 14 of the Terms applies to the Data in full.

Availability. The API is provided without an uptime commitment unless we have agreed one with you in writing. We may take it down for maintenance, change infrastructure, or suspend it to protect the service, with notice where practical.

Versioning. The current API version is v1. Within a version, changes are additive: we may add fields, endpoints, enum values, and optional parameters without notice, and your code must tolerate fields it does not recognize. We will not remove or rename a field, endpoint, or required parameter within a version without at least 90 days' notice on the changelog at wellwardhealth.com/developers/changelog and by email to your account. We may retire a version six months after announcing its successor. Security fixes and the removal of Data we are legally required to remove are not subject to this notice.

Logging. We log every API request, including the account and key it was made with (never the key itself), the endpoint, the service and parameters requested (free-text parameters only as a one-way hash), the approximate location queried (rounded to about 7 miles), the number of results, and timing. We use these logs to operate and secure the API, to enforce limits and calculate fees, to understand demand so we know where to gather prices next, and for aggregate statistics. Request logs are retained for 90 days and then summarized. Our handling of personal information about API account holders is described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Termination

You may stop using the API at any time by revoking your keys in the developer portal or emailing hello@wellwardhealth.com. We may suspend or revoke access as described in Section 3, and may terminate API access generally on notice. On termination, your license under Section 4 ends and you must stop calling the API and delete cached Data within 30 days, except that you may keep records of prices already shown to your users as part of your ordinary business records, and aggregate statistics you have already published may stand. Fees accrued before termination remain payable.

Sections 1, 2, 4 (as to ownership), 5, 6, 7, 8 (as to contributions), 9, 10, and 11, together with the surviving sections of the Terms, survive termination.

11. Liability and indemnity

The API is offered on the same basis as the rest of the Services. Wellward's total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the API will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid Wellward for the API in the 12 months before the claim or $100, as set out in Section 15 of the Terms, and the exclusions of indirect, consequential, and similar damages in that section apply. You will defend and indemnify Wellward as set out in Section 16 of the Terms for claims arising from your application, your users, your contributions, any information you send us in breach of Section 2, or your breach of these API Terms, including any claim that your display or use of the Data misled a user about what a provider would charge.

12. Changes to these API Terms

We may change these API Terms at any time. We will post the updated version on the developer portal and update the "Last Updated" date above; for material changes we will also email the address on your account. Continued use of the API after a change is posted means you accept it.
